Dyson Heater Error Codes: AM09 F3, H2 and E8

Dyson Heater Error Codes: AM09 F3, H2 and E8
Short answer

Dyson's US AM09 manual sends F2, F3 and F7 straight to its Helpline. For F4, F5 and F6, it gives an unplugging step with a 30 to 60 second wait, then support if the code remains. Dyson's UK AM09 page calls H2 and E8 system alerts without identifying a failed part.

Dyson heater error codes do not all get the same reset: the US AM09 manual sends F3 to Dyson support, while F4 has an owner troubleshooting step. If it is safe to do so, note the complete code before unplugging the heater.

This page covers the Hot+Cool Jet Focus AM09. Dyson’s UK AM09 product FAQ also discusses H2 and E8, but only calls them system alerts. It does not say that either code proves a blocked heater, failed sensor or defective heating element.

Before you start

What to carry: your phone or a pen, the model information and the matching manual. Photograph the code while it is visible. Include whether it appeared in heating mode, cooling mode or as the machine stopped.

Gas or electric? This is a portable electric fan heater. Do not use this chart for a Dyson vacuum, hair care appliance or a different Hot+Cool model such as the HP07.

Renting or using someone else’s heater? Send the owner the model and display before ordering parts or arranging service.

For a heater without a code, our space heater not working guide covers the wider symptoms. The timings below come from Dyson’s AM09 instructions.

A damaged heater or hot plug comes before a reset.
Dyson says not to use the AM09 with a damaged cord or plug, after a drop, damage or a sharp blow, or if it has been left outdoors or fallen into water. Contact Dyson. Its manual prohibits disassembly because incorrect reassembly can cause shock or fire.

For a loose socket fit or a very hot plug, Dyson directs you to a qualified electrician about replacing the socket. Do not move a suspect plug between outlets to continue the code test.

Dyson requires a direct wall connection without an extension cable, dry indoor use, and combustible materials at least three feet from the front and away from the sides and rear. Turn the controls off before unplugging and hold the plug rather than pulling the cable.

Dyson says not to touch the heater or plug with wet hands or use it in bathrooms, laundry areas or near water containers. Keep it away from flammable vapors and air fresheners, and do not place it directly below a socket.

Its manual also says to keep the cord away from heated surfaces and walking routes, never under carpets or furniture. Do not cover the heater or use it on a soft surface where its openings could become blocked.

The AM09 is hot during heating and afterward. Dyson says to carry it by the base, not the loop. Let it cool before handling the air openings.

For F2, F3 or F7, keep the code for Dyson

Dyson’s US AM09 troubleshooting section does not give those three codes an owner repair or a component diagnosis. Its instruction is to contact the Helpline. Use the AM09 support page to start with the correct machine.

Include any fall, damaged cable, unusual smell or hot plug.

Check 2A power interruption, with service if the fault remains

For F4, F5 or F6, use the manual's limited test

After ruling out the warning conditions above, Dyson’s instruction is to unplug the AM09 and wait 30 to 60 seconds, and/or plug it into a different socket. Any socket used must meet its direct wall connection requirements.

If the same code continues, Dyson says to contact its Helpline. That is the stopping point for this branch. The manual does not tell you to keep repeating power interruptions or open the heater to replace a part.

This short interval is the fault code step. It is not the cooling time before cleaning a hot AM09, which Dyson gives separately below.

H2 and E8 need a model specific support answer

Dyson’s UK AM09 FAQ names H2 and E8 together as system alerts and directs owners to the manual or support for troubleshooting. There is no component level definition in that answer.

Give support the entire code and the market version of your AM09. Do not buy a sensor or heating assembly from an unsourced code table. The US manual used here lists actions for F2 through F7, so its F code reset should not be presented as a specific H2 or E8 cure.

A changing number or standby is not always an error

Check 3A control setting check, with no parts needed

Separate temperature, fan speed and timed stopping

Dyson says the AM09 briefly shows the new fan speed after an airflow adjustment. In heating mode, the display returns to the target temperature after three seconds. A number changing at that moment can therefore be normal operation.

The US manual also says heater mode requires a target above the room temperature. Compare the displayed target with the room conditions before treating a lack of heat as a fault.

For timed stopping, Dyson describes two different controls: the sleep timer puts the machine in standby when its countdown reaches zero, while continuous heating automatically ends after nine hours. The manual allows restart from the power button on the remote or base after that automatic heating stop.

If you changed a setting while checking it, return to the temperature you actually want. A recognizable operating display is useful context, but report any continuing failure to heat.

Cooling and cleaning are a separate procedure

Dyson's AM09 blockage check names the base inlet holes and the small opening inside the loop. Unplug and allow one to two hours for a used machine to cool before clearing them.
Check 4Cooling time and external cleaning with a soft brush

Use the AM09 cooling time before touching the openings

Dyson’s blockage instructions require unplugging and, if the AM09 has been in use, allowing one to two hours for it to cool completely. Look at the air inlet holes and the small opening inside the loop, then remove debris with a soft brush.

For the outside, Dyson permits a dry or damp cloth after the same cooling period. Do not use detergent or polish. Keep this an external clean; the manual’s no disassembly rule still applies.

Dyson separately describes automatic protection if the heater tips or overheats. If that protection operates, Dyson says to unplug the heater and let it cool. Before restarting, clear any blockages and place it on a solid, level surface. These are protection instructions, not published definitions of H2 or E8.

If you also notice an abnormal odor, the electric heater smell guide helps describe it. Stop for damage or an electrical problem rather than using cleaning to justify another test.

What each one takes

Finding Work involved
F2, F3 or F7 Dyson support assessment
F4, F5 or F6 The manual’s power and socket check, then support if unresolved
H2 or E8 Advice for the exact machine and market version
Visible debris at the openings Complete cooling and external cleaning
A loose socket or very hot plug An electrician’s inspection of the connection

Questions people ask

Where is the US AM09 error code manual?

Download Dyson’s US AM09 operating manual. Its English troubleshooting section is on page 12; cleaning and blockage instructions are on page 10.

Does F3 mean the motor has failed?

The US AM09 owner manual does not identify a failed motor for F3. Its instruction is to contact Dyson. A parts diagnosis needs more than a label copied from another model.

Can I use this for an E code on an AM05?

No. Keep AM05 and AM09 separate, including their reset instructions. Select AM05 in Dyson’s support system and report the exact display.

Does the cooling mode mean an AM09 is an air conditioner?

Dyson describes the AM09 as a fan heater with heating and cooling modes. This guide’s fault steps apply to that named appliance; they are not an air conditioner refrigerant diagnostic.

Can a replacement remote clear the fault?

The US AM09 troubleshooting section does not list a replacement remote as the remedy for its F codes. Record the display and follow its code branch before ordering one.
