Toyotomi Laser Heater Error Codes: 730 and 73
Short answer

Toyotomi's Laser 730 Type A uses E-2 for out of fuel or no flame and E-6 for a fuel line malfunction; both can also involve the flue. The Laser 73 Type O uses EE2 for no ignition and EE6 for a flame that goes out. Match the model and type before choosing a check.

Toyotomi Laser heater error codes tell you more when you keep the model and the moment it stopped together. Did the heater fail to light, or did the flame disappear after it had been warming the room? Toyotomi’s Laser 73 Type O chart separates those two problems.

The Laser 730 Type A has a different chart, including separate entries for a high limit trip and repeated ignition failure. Here are both lists, followed by the checks you can make without dismantling the heater.

For a Monitor M2400 or M2200, use the Monitor heater code guide instead of a Laser chart.

Before you start

What to carry: a torch, a phone for the display and the heater’s paperwork. A vacuum is useful only for the cold, unplugged exterior cleaning described below.

Gas or electric? These are vented liquid fuel heaters with electrical controls and fans. They are not ordinary electric space heaters. The plug-in space heater guide is for that other type.

Find the model and type. This page uses the Laser 730/730AT Type A manual and Laser 73 Type O manual. The number 73 is not an abbreviation for 730. A Laser 56 needs its own book.

Renting? Send the model, displayed code and any fuel delivery history to the person responsible for the heater.

Fuel and fire safety come first. Toyotomi forbids gasoline in both manuals because it can produce uncontrollable flames. Use only the fuel grade approved for your exact model and type. The manuals also say not to store fuel in the living space. Toyotomi warns that the surfaces get hot, so keep children, furniture and clothing away while the heater runs.

For normal shutdown, Toyotomi says to use ON/OFF; the fans continue for about three minutes to cool the heater. Both manuals say to make sure the ON or ON/OFF lamp goes out when the fan stops. Then unplug and let the heater cool completely before cleaning or corrective checks.

For a Laser 73 Type O showing EE10, Toyotomi says not to reuse the heater until the cause has been determined.

On the Laser 73, Toyotomi also directs you to the dealer if the Low, Med and High lamps flash together; its table lists possible excess fuel or a flame sensor fault. Fuel leakage also needs immediate correction, according to the 730 maintenance instructions. Stop owner troubleshooting if you find a leak.

Keep the whole message

Save the message exactly as shown, including both Es if there are two. Add whether the heater never lit, stopped after lighting or would not extinguish. Those are separate headings in Toyotomi’s Laser 73 troubleshooting table.

Laser 730 and 730AT Type A codes

Toyotomi gives the following meanings on page 18 of the Type A manual. Where a code appears twice, both causes belong in the list.

Code Toyotomi’s Type A meaning Where to start
E-0 Power failure, including low voltage or unstable frequency. Check the power source; electrical testing belongs with service personnel.
E-2 Out of fuel or no flame; also listed with E-6 for a flue blockage or leak. Fuel gauge, then the flue observations below.
E-6 Fuel line malfunction; also flue blockage or leakage. Report it to the dealer without opening the fuel line.
E-8 Blower motor malfunction. Dealer diagnosis.
E-12 High limit switch activated. Cold exterior airflow cleaning and removal of obstructions.
E-13 Burner temperature sensor failure, or flue blockage or leakage. Visible flue check and dealer diagnosis.
E-22 Three ignition failures. Toyotomi directs this to the dealer.
E-23 Flame sensor malfunction or contamination. Dealer cleaning and inspection.

Laser 73 Type O codes

Toyotomi’s page 15 groups this model’s faults by what the heater does.

Display Toyotomi’s Type O meaning and listed causes
EE2 No ignition. Causes include an empty tank, closed tank valve, air in the line, blocked flue, clogged fuel strainer, or an igniter, board, flame sensor or fuel pump malfunction.
EE6 Extinguished after ignition. Causes include air in the fuel line, no fuel, a high limit trip, obstructed fuel flow, a tank installed too high, or a fuel sump valve or flame sensor malfunction.
EE8 Blower motor malfunction, listed under both starting and running failures.
EE10 Does not extinguish. Possible excess fuel in the burner or a flame sensor malfunction.
Hi Room temperature over 95 F or incorrect room sensor location.
Lo Room temperature below 14 F, or a disconnected or faulty room sensor.

The owner checks worth making

Check 2A tank check; fuel delivery if the supply is empty

Check the fuel gauge before assuming a failed part

For the 730’s E-2 and the 73’s EE2 or EE6, Toyotomi includes checking the tank gauge and refuelling when empty. Tell the dealer if the trouble began just after the tank ran dry.

The Laser 73 chart also lists a closed fuel tank valve under EE2. If you cannot identify why a valve was closed, leave it alone for the person servicing the fuel supply. This page does not walk you through opening lines, draining a strainer or moving a tank.

Check 3An exterior observation; vent repairs need service access

Look at the flue without taking it apart

Toyotomi’s 730 chart includes flue blockage or leakage under E-2, E-6 and E-13. Its Laser 73 chart includes a clogged flue under EE2. From a safe place, look for an obstructed outside terminal or a visibly loose connection.

Report what you find. Leave the pipe connected and let the repairer deal with soot inside it, damaged joints or vent alterations.

THREE PLACES TO OBSERVEAATank supplyCompare the gauge withthe fuel history.BBDust or pet hairClean the cold exterior coverwith the heater unplugged.CCVisible obstructionKeep the vent assembled;report blockage or leakage.
Keep these observations separate: fuel supply, airflow around the heater, and the flue outside. Internal fuel and combustion repairs are beyond these checks.
Check 4Exterior cleaning; service if the protection trip returns

Clear the circulation fan cover when cold

For E-12 on the 730 Type A, Toyotomi says to clean the circulation fan filter, remove obstructions and let the heater cool completely before reigniting. Its 730 safety instructions also require the cause of a safety shutdown to be identified and corrected. Toyotomi’s maintenance section says to vacuum dust and pet hair from the rear fan cover.

On the Laser 73 Type O, the high limit entry sits under EE6 and calls for cleaning the circulation fan cover and removing obstructions. This is one possible cause in that row, not a diagnosis of every EE6 shutdown.

Check 5Dealer inspection before further ignition attempts

Use the stopping point for your model

Toyotomi sends the 730’s E-22 to the dealer. For the 73 Type O, its no ignition note says not to keep switching on and off if the unit fails three times after the listed causes have been checked.

Book service with the full model, code and your observations. Fuel line work, flame sensor testing and combustion repairs need more than the display message. The oil furnace guide concerns a different burner system; its reset procedure is not a Toyotomi procedure.

What each one takes

Finding What the next step involves
Empty tank The correct fuel supply restored, with the reason for any continuing failure checked.
Dust on the rear fan cover Shutdown, complete cooling and exterior cleaning while unplugged.
Flue fault, blower or sensor message A service visit and diagnosis before repair parts are chosen.
Repeated ignition failure or failure to extinguish Stop further attempts and arrange the maker’s specified service response.

Questions people ask

Does E2 mean I need a new igniter?

Not from that number alone. The 730 Type A chart includes no fuel or no flame under E-2. The 73 Type O’s EE2 row lists several causes, with an igniter malfunction among them.

Is CL an error on a Toyotomi Laser heater?

In the 730 Type A manual, cl:05 through cl:01 marks automatic burner cleaning. In the 73 Type O manual, CL:10 marks its ten minute igniter cleaning cycle. Those are different cleaning functions.

What does the red reset button reset?

Toyotomi identifies it as the fuel sump reset in these manuals. For the 730, Toyotomi describes chugging on first startup or after running out of fuel. If the noise does not decrease and the heater shuts off, its note specifies one press, never holding the button down. The same note also calls for open valves, fuel in the external tank and clear filters. Ask the dealer to check any valve or filter you cannot safely assess.

Where can I get the code PDF?

Use Toyotomi’s 730/730AT Type A manual or 73 Type O manual. Their troubleshooting tables are on pages 18 and 15 respectively.

Can I apply these rows to a Laser 56?

No Laser 56 manual is used here. Match its own model and type before selecting a code meaning or restarting it.
